All three pictures were taken from overlook park in South Burlington. All were using the P setting on my D40. The dark one was with the bright spot (the sun.. :) ) as the point of focus.. This created a dark foreground as expected. The first image was done by pressing the shutter release half way, thus focusing and doing a meter reading from away from the sun.. I used the trees on the left. This allowed the forground to be exposed better.
The Last picture was focused (metered) on the trees again, but making sure the sun was not fully in frame..
My favorite time for pictures is near sunset.. without a flash. I MUCH prefer natural light.
Nice sunset and photos! I agree that natural light is the best. I wonder if you could play around with the darkness setting on your camera. I have done that and it makes the sun stand out more, but the rest of the picture becomes dark. Very nice variety in these three shots. I like the color, but I wonder if the lighting could be a bit better. Keep at it. Great Job!

ReplyDeleteI like the placement of the sun in the last picture and feel it might work with the others. The islands in the foreground add something as well that is lost in the first two.
ReplyDeleteI like the last picture too. You can see the definition in the trees and it seems to add depth to the photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view, I don't think you could mess this up, breathtaking. The middle one is my favorite, seems so serene.
ReplyDeleteI love the last one - the sun still plays an active part, but it doesn't dominate the picture, and lets the other scenery come out.
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for sunsets ... great job.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your last comment, I also am a sucker for natural light. I had done my light-comparison assignment inside, and I think I am going to redue it (for my own satisfaction) outside. Great shoots, Reflection on the water is a great addition to landscapes, especially sunsets, I wonder if this could be emphasized.
ReplyDeleteOverlook Park is a great location for some amazing sunsets! I really like the first photo, just as the sun was setting behind the mountains. The colors of the sky really stand out from the tree line!
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have gotten this with all the rain we've had. spectacular.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos. I love how you explained how you got them. I loved the last one. There's a lot of very pastel like color in it and the sun is there but out of the way. VERY nice work...
ReplyDeleteI love it. I also prefer the natural light. It makes the photo much more appealing to the eye.
